Bridgeport resident Timothy Staton, 24, has been sentenced in Hartford federal court to 37 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in February.

Staton - who has previous felony convictions for robbery, narcotics, firearm and racketeering offenses - admitted to fleeing from police on Sept. 13 last year, during which he removed a Glock 43 9mm handgun and threw it to the ground.

Officers proceeded to apprehend Staton and the gun was recovered.

According to U.S. Attorney John Durham, it is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Staton has been detained since his arrest. He pleaded guilty on Feb. 25 to the weapons charge.
